Sports Psychology
Have you found that:
- You don’t always perform as well in competition as you do in practice?
- You find it difficult dealing with nerves?
- You struggle with motivation to train and confidence to perform?
- Your team does not gel together?
If you have experienced any of the above then you might think about working on these psychological aspects of your sporting experience and performance with a sports psychologist.
Getting Started
Sports Psychology aims to improve the mental skills of an athlete or a sports person. Mental skills of an athlete would include: enhancement of level of self-confidence, motivation, the ability to relax under pressure and the ability to concentrate. It is important for athletes to know the importance of psychological skills and how they influence on-field performance.
It includes:
- Prevention and Rehabilitation from knee injuries
- Return to play after a surgery

At Dobson Sports, we have accredited sports psychologists, headed by sports medicine expert Dr. Dobson,
We offer:
- One-on-one individual consultations where an assessment of psychological strengths and weaknesses will lead to intervention strategies to help develop the psychology of your performance (these are available in 3 or 6 session packages)
- Group workshops with performers, coaches or parents to educate and discuss psychological aspects of sport and performance
- Working with team, squads or training groups to develop motivation, cohesion and ultimately performance
One-on-One Sessions
To help professional and amateur athletes to overcome their problems, enhance their performance and achieve their goals, we provide one-on-one sessions.
These sessions help athletes discuss their problems. They could have difficulties like coping up with pressure, controlling anger, having adjustment problems with team members or the inability to keep up with an exercise program. In such cases, they need psychological counsel and guidance.
Mental Conditioning - An Effective way to combat difficulties
Mental Conditioning helps athletes attain an ideal mental shape for good performance in a consistent manner.
A Mental Conditioning Coachfocuses on the mental state of an athlete both on field and off field. He/she studies the life of an athlete in totality, analysing all the factors contributing to the athlete’s performance on field.
Each athlete`s response to the mental conditioning coach will be different. The primary focus of the mental conditioning coach is to be a positive support to the athlete in every way possible and help in their development.
To develop psychological skills and coping strategies in order to get the best out of yourself as a performer, coach or parent you can work with our sports psychologists.
